The Check-up Basis is the statutory preventive examination for all publicly insured patients. It is designed to identify risk factors for common widespread diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or kidney disease at an early stage – before symptoms appear.
As specialists in general medicine with a focus on nutritional and preventive medicine, we at SmartPraxis specialise in preventive examinations. We work with you to create an individual risk profile and advise you on how to protect your long-term health through targeted measures.

Publicly insured individuals between the ages of 18 and 34 are entitled to a one-time Check-up Junior. The examination takes approximately 30 minutes and is fully covered by your health insurance.
The focus is on the early detection of risk factors for vascular diseases that can lead to stroke or heart attack in the long term. The Check-up Junior includes a medical consultation about your medical history and lifestyle habits, a physical examination, and a review of your vaccination status. Due vaccinations can be administered on site if desired. Your vaccination record will also be digitised if this has not already been done.
Good to know: The Check-up Junior does not usually include laboratory tests (blood draw or urine test). If you would like more comprehensive diagnostics, please speak to us – we will be happy to advise you on our extended preventive care options.
From the age of 35, publicly insured individuals can take advantage of a comprehensive health check-up every three years. This preventive examination goes beyond the Junior check-up and additionally includes laboratory tests.
The Check-up 35 follows a structured procedure:
Discussion of existing conditions, medication use, family medical history, and lifestyle habits (diet, exercise, stress levels, alcohol and tobacco consumption).
Listening to the heart and lungs, palpation of the abdomen, measurement of blood pressure and pulse, assessment of the skin and musculoskeletal system.
Blood draw to determine total cholesterol and fasting blood glucose. Urine test (dipstick test) for protein, glucose, red and white blood cells, and nitrite.
Since October 2021, a one-time blood test for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C has been included in the scope of services. The aim is to detect previously unrecognised viral liver infections early and prevent secondary diseases.
Review of vaccination status and advice on recommended boosters.
In a concluding consultation, we review all results together and create your personal risk profile. If any abnormalities are found, you will receive specific recommendations or a referral to the appropriate specialist practice.
To determine fasting blood glucose, you should attend the blood draw on an empty stomach – this means not eating for at least eight hours beforehand. Water and unsweetened tea are permitted. We therefore recommend scheduling a morning appointment.

Depending on age and sex, public health insurers cover additional screening examinations. At SmartPraxis, we offer the following preventive services, among others:
Please speak to us if you are unsure which preventive examinations are relevant for you – we provide individualised advice.

"Many conditions such as high blood pressure or elevated blood lipids develop over years without noticeable symptoms. The regular check-up is often the only opportunity to detect these risk factors in time – and to take action before serious damage occurs."

The Check-up Basis covers the statutory basic preventive care. If you want to invest more actively in your health, our Premium Check-Up offers significantly more comprehensive diagnostics – including extended laboratory diagnostics, resting ECG, and individualised health counselling.
During the health check-up, risk factors for chronic diseases are identified at an early stage. This typically includes a discussion of your personal and family medical history, a physical examination, vaccination consultation, and selected laboratory tests. The goal is to prevent possible diseases or delay their onset and to provide you with preventive recommendations.
Depending on age and results, further examinations may follow or referrals to specialists may be issued.
During the Check-up 35, total cholesterol and fasting blood glucose are measured. A urine test is also performed. For younger patients (Check-up Junior), laboratory testing is not usually included as standard, but can be added if there is an individual risk.
Publicly insured individuals aged 35 and over can take advantage of the health check-up every three years. Between the ages of 18 and 34, the Check-up Junior is available once. Other age-dependent services covered by insurance include:
– Skin cancer screening from age 35 (every two years)
– Faecal occult blood test between ages 50 and 55 (annually)
– Cancer screening for men from age 45 (annually)
– Aneurysm screening for men from age 65 (one-time)
A health check-up is typically carried out at general practitioner surgeries. At SmartPraxis in the Ärztehaus Nymphenburg (Rosa-Bavarese-Str. 1, 80639 Munich), we are specialists in general medicine with a focus on nutritional and preventive medicine, specialising in preventive examinations. In addition to insurance-covered services, we also offer an extended [Premium Check-Up → Link].
Public health insurers cover the full costs of the Check-up Junior (one-time, ages 18–34) and the Check-up 35 (every three years from age 35). Whether and to what extent private insurers reimburse a health check-up depends on the individual tariff and should be clarified with the insurer in advance.
For the Check-up 35, we recommend attending the blood draw on an empty stomach, as fasting blood glucose is measured. This means: no food intake for at least eight hours beforehand. Water and unsweetened tea are permitted. For the Check-up Junior, no special preparation is usually required.
Since October 2021, publicly insured individuals aged 35 and over are entitled to a one-time screening for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C as part of the Check-up 35. A blood sample is tested for antibodies or viral components. The aim is to detect previously unknown infections early and treat them before serious liver damage occurs.
The Check-up Basis includes the preventive examinations covered by public health insurance. Our [Premium Check-Up → Link] goes significantly further and includes extended laboratory diagnostics, a resting ECG, and a detailed individualised health consultation – ideal for anyone who wants to actively do more for their health.
